Ramadan is the holiest month in the Islamic calendar. During the month-long celebration, research has suggested leftover food waste is expected to go up from an average of 2.7 kilograms per person, per day, to 4.5 kilograms.

To address the problem of food waste during Ramadan, WRAP developed a simple, rewarding and customisable ‘good deeds’ calendar. The calendar was made up of a series of daily tasks that were intertwined with spiritual Ramadan teachings and food waste prevention activities. It was piloted with 106 families in the UK during Ramadan 2022.
