Key findings
  • In general, dry mixed recyclates from commercial sources are less contaminated than that collected from households
  • Lower contamination levels mean that MRFs handling predominantly commercial material have less work to do, and therefore have a higher throughput
  • Commercial gate fees have reportedly been higher than local authority fees, but can be more reactive to changes in commodity markets and are therefore less risk to the operator

For the first time, this report analyses the gate fees charged for commercial waste for AD and MRFs.

Gate fees are supplied by organic facility operators, and additional detail on commercial waste gate fees for certain facility types has been sought through interviews with operators.
