This brochure showcases projects delivered by the Resource Action Fund (RAF) grants within the plastic policy area.

The RAF grant schemes for plastic recycling aimed to address the challenges around difficult to recycle plastic packaging so that it remains a valuable resource. Investments made by Defra through RAF have helped to make positive strides towards more recycled content being used in plastic packaging, therefore reducing the strain on our natural resources and carbon emissions.

Overall, these initiatives funded through the Resource Action Fund are expected to divert over 113,369 tonnes of plastic waste from landfill. This is estimated to avoid over 206,404 tonnes of CO2e emissions.

WRAP will continue to monitor the progress of RAF capital grants, to understand the outcomes and impacts of the funding awarded, in relation to:

  • how the project was implemented;
  • the success of the project;
  • highlights and what could have been improved;
  • key learnings;
  • tonnage of plastic packaging recycled as a result of the project; and
  • how the grant monies were spent; next steps, including a proposal for wider implementation .if the project was successful
