In this project, WRAP investigated the scope to increase the proportion of recycled fibre used by magazine publishing to ensure long-term end markets for recovered fibre. Increased demand and use of recycled content paper will increase the diversion of paper from landfill, and improve the likelihood of investment in new recycled content paper capacity.

WRAP, in collaboration with Valpak Consulting Ltd, has published three market oriented reports which each focus on particular aspects of plastic packaging recycling in the UK.

A case study detailing Re-Gen’s decision to adopt an environmental management system (ISO 14001) to help win customers and streamline operations.

A case study researching potential improvements in the reprocessing of glass container contents through Materials Recovery Facilities (MRFs). 

A case study detailing the halving of material entering the residual waste stream at Milton Keynes Materials Recovery Facility (MRF).

A case study detailing how investment in Greenstar’s MRF enables the production of top quality material outputs from recyclables supplied in both co-mingled and source-segregated streams. 

A case study detailing how the Bywaters plant in East London optimises output quality using different line speeds and equipment settings depending on the mix of the feedstock material.

A case study detailing the success Reading’s Material Recycling Facility (MRF) is having with its automatically sorted plastics. 

A communications activity to develop best practice guidance for capturing metals at the kerbside between WRAP, Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council and the Beverage Can Makers Europe (and their partners Novelis Recycling and Tata Steel).

The Recycle Now programme commissioned research to explore people’s barriers to recycling at home. This report forms part of our guidance to Local Authorities on how to create more informative, pursuasive and engaging communications campaigns. 

This report looks at ways of making food waste collection services more efficient and more affordable to businesses, with the aim of increasing take up and diverting more food waste from landfill.
