A performance assessment of a representative range of domestic fridge thermometers was undertaken in a series of scientific experiments to ascertain the accuracy, resolution and responsiveness of the thermometers to a change in temperature. This information will be of use to those communicating to consumers about food waste and food safety, and those providing tools for sale or use by consumers.

This project examined two aspects of consumer behaviour in relation to food waste: understanding (and use) of guidance dates on packs; and demand for more varied portion sizes. General and food-type specific insights have been obtained which should allow WRAP and others to develop advice and solutions to help consumers reduce the amount of food they throw away.

Research was carried out for WRAP by Brook Lyndhurst to investigate consumer attitudes and behaviours relatingto food and food waste, and what might motivate consumers to throw away less food. The results of the workfed directly into the development of the Love Food Hate Waste consumer-facing campaign. It included a national quantitative survey plus focus groups. The work was also used to develop a metric that could be used to track the impact of the campaign. This report focuses on the quantitative aspects of the research.

Reducing food waste in Europe

Resource Efficient Food and dRink for the Entire Supply cHain (REFRESH) was an EU research project taking action against food waste. 26 partners from 12 European countries and China worked towards the project's goal to contribute towards Sustainable Development Goal 12.3 of halving per capita food waste at the retail and consumer level and reducing food losses along production and supply chains, reducing waste management costs, and maximizing the value from un-avoidable food waste and packaging materials.
