This section provides links to WRAP’s communications guidance. It provides both general and specific waste prevention communications guidance as well as case studies and pilots on successful communications activities.

In 2020 WRAP carried out an options appraisal on behalf of a medium sized Waste Collection Authority in the midlands to compare the cost and performance of a range of collection scenarios in preparation for necessary changes to its household waste collection service.

This programme of research addresses the lack of quality data on household and municipal waste collected by local authorities in the UK. It looks at the quantity of different materials in mixed residual waste in order to broaden the data available, and to support policy development. Five outputs have been derived from this research, outlined below.

WRAP has launched a series of market situation reports providing in-depth information on the latest economic trends and developments facing the UK’s recycling industry. Each report focuses on a different material stream and is presented in a compact, easily digestible format.

These good practice guides are aimed at waste management companies and local authorities to encourage the collection of food waste from small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs), public sector organisations, and larger businesses.

Whilst a good number of local authorities do collect household food and garden waste for large-scale composting and digestion operations, composting at home has the added benefit of avoiding transport impacts and producing a soil improver output which can be used in resident’s gardens.
