This document aims to help you estimate the cost of communications activities. The indicative costs will help you develop an initial budget for your communications and give you an indication of what is acceptable value for money.

All prices are current and competitive for the UK. However, this guide is not intended as a substitute for seeking estimates from local companies and following your council’s procurement policy, which often requires a minimum of three quotations. Where you can secure suitable in-house services you should expect to make savings.

This guide should be used in conjunction with the following guidance documents produced by WRAP, which include:

There are many ways of communicating messages and you need to ensure you select a mix of relevant communication methods and activities based on your area and project. With so much choice there is inevitably a variation in price and small changes in specification can have a large impact on the cost.

Prepare to be flexible in terms of your communications approach and specification in order to get a price that fits within your budget. Ask your suppliers lots of questions, and if costs are coming in higher than you can afford ask how they can be reduced – make use of their experience and expertise.
