A preliminary study on strawberries and lettuces

The final report of achievements by signatories to the Courtauld Commitment 3 (CC3).

This report details the research into a standardised stability test method that is capable of being used to measure compost stability consistently in laboratory conditions and can be used as a standard test throughout the UK and potentially Europe.

This report was commissioned to close gaps in understanding of compost and digestate quality, to build confidence amongst potential compost and digestate users, and to identify any specific areas where improvements in quality might be considered desirable.

This research has examined the impacts of AD (anaerobic digestion) on a range of common crop pests and diseases. This project was initiated to confirm and add to published data.

This short research note provides updated (2015) estimates for food surplus and waste in wholesale grocery sector, including cash and carry, and specialist wholesale markets.

The report, which has been developed with leading figures in the food supply chain, includes:

• The risks to the UK food system over the next 10 years if we don't embrace a business unusual approach to the way we manufacture, sell and consume food;
• The huge wealth of opportunities that developing a Flexible, Intelligent and Transparent (FIT) supply chain will open to the sector; and
• How a "business unusual" approach will enable the sector to respond flexibly to changes in demand and weather patterns, with a transparent supply chain that will limit food scares and scandals.

November 2011

Research shows that annual UK household food and drink waste has fallen by 1.1 million tonnes (13%) over a three year period from 8.3 million tonnes to an estimated 7.2 million tonnes. This avoided food and drink waste would fill the Wembley Stadium in London to the brim.
